Post Electronic Strike Zone Coming

At least the umpires have agreed to test it. Can't get here fast enough.

Just keep in mind - the electronic strike zone is going to take away the thing Grandal does best.

It's more about how it will affect the hitters as it calls the high strike consistently. Be prepared for a lot of pissed off players.

Domeshot17 makes a great point about Grandal. As for passed balls allowed Grandal improved last year.

As for the possibility of hitters whining about the true strikezone becoming enforced, good...

Joe West and at least 3 other umpires should think about typing a resume.

This is long overdue, in my opinion. Both the new electronics, and getting rid of those 4 mopes.

It should be interesting.

The article says they're just testing it now and implementation would be "at some point during the next five seasons." I wouldn't write off Grandal's value to the Sox just yet. By the time this is implemented, his contract with the Sox could very well be over.

If it accurately measures the rule-book strike zone, it will reduce home runs and decrease walks.

And force more players to refine the fundamental skill of making consistently solid contact.

I hope this doesn't lead baseball down a path to balls and strikes becoming reviewable

They won't need to be reviewed if they are registered electronically.

None of that may be true. It’s going to get the pitches right, but that also includes all the framed strikes that should be balls
