Default Would you hire or want AJ Hinch as your manager?

Once he serves his one year suspension, would you want AJ Hinch as your team manager? Hopefully he has learned his lesson. I'm not sure if I would want all the baggage he would bring.

It sounds like Hinch didn't exactly love the plan and twice tried to break the equipment. I was talking to someone about this who made an interesting point: A manager can order his coach to stop doing something he doesn't like, but a manager can't order a coach to stop doing something that the GM (or owner) likes. So, I think that Hinch wasn't quite as involved in this as guys like Luhnow were.

And to answer your question, yes, I would hire Hinch. I think what's more likely to happen though is Hinch serves as someone's bench coach for a bit before he gets another managerial gig.

Yes.

And also Cora will be available in 2021 (I assume).

No.

I should add that I wouldn't hire Cora. It appears to me he was a master-mind in this activity. However, I think A.J. was caught in the middle. So I would consider him as a manager after his suspension.

I'd hire Hinch.

Absolutely. The Sox would benefit tremendously from somebody coming in and installing the kind of analytics and science-based approach to baseball that the Astros use.

I'm not sure about that. Hinch was against the scheme and got a 1-year suspension for remaining silent about it. I hope they don't give the exact same punishment to the mastermind of the whole thing.

No to both. If Hinch really was opposed to what was being done than he should have stepped up and not allowed it. And if it meant he would lose his job than so be it. He surely would be working today for a new organization and not be where he is today.

My feelings as well. I want zero association with this cheating epidemic.

Compared to the pile of useless in the dugout right now, I would take A.J. Hinch, Pete Rose, or the exhumed corpse of Shoeless Joe Jackson.

They would benefit more from someone who knew baseball, someone who instinctively knew how to apply the scientific analytics without the benefit of a spreadsheet telling them what they are, someone knows when to play counter to percentages when it's the right thing to do. The Astros didn't win with analytics, and the Nationals certainly didn't beat them with analytics.

I'm out on him as well. Probably was a decent manager, but wasn't the sole person behind the analytics driven philosophies, and didn't make Bregman, Correa, Altuve, Springer, Verlander who they were.

I'd hire him, but not right away obviously. He was huge and a class act with the team in many ways, especially during the hurricane. It's too bad he wasn't more outspoken or had more balls frankly, to say put a stop to this, especially when his players said it was more distracting that anything.

I wouldn't hire Cora though.
