Scott Merkin

@scottmerkin
White Sox have purchased the contracts of right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease and left-hander Kodi Medeiros from Double-A Birmingham and right-hander Jordan Stephens and catcher Seby Zavala from Triple-A Charlotte.

1:06 PM - Nov 20, 2018 ∑ Chicago, IL

Ryan LaMarre has been claimed by the Braves. Goodbye to another stiff on the roster! Roster stands at 39.

LaMarre was a minor league free agent and signed a minor league contract with the Braves, it wasn't a waiver claim. LaMarre was outrighted to Charlotte on Oct 26th.

So, barring any more movement, that leaves one spot for either Adams or Guerrero?

If so, keep Guerrero. I feel that Adams' inability to miss bats and overall repertoire is a bad combo vs MLB hitting. Opponents hit .267 against him last year in the minors, only going to get worse in the bigs.

Or they're both left off and they see if there's someone they want to pick up left unprotected by another team. It appears that's the strategy.

I had liked Clarkin, but this says more about the comparative states of our respective systems.

Was Clarkin on the 40-man and got dropped off it? Is that why they could claim him? Do they have to put him on their 25-man roster or just the 40-man?

Yes, he had already been on the 40-man roster.

For the younger prospects, today was/is they day teams have to decide whether to add them to the roster. Prior to that those prospects/players had not accrued enough service time to require 40-man roster protection.

If guys like Tilson, Minaya (is he some Cooper fascination) and that org. minor leaguer they just traded for and others are on the a 40 man, I'd certainly prefer to keep Adams, Thompson and Mendick.

I agree. Tilson and Minaya are basically stiffs, cannon fodder, four A players with ZERO future, absolutely none with the Sox moving forward. The kids may be able to contribute something going ahead, the guys you mentioned had their chances and contributed very, very little.

The issue is that those guys are on the 25 man roster. If you remove them somone else has to be put on the 25-man roster. It doesn't free up space to stash more not ready for the majors players. It only forces them to rush someone else from the bottom 15 onto the major league squad.

Thatís a really, really good point. Post Of The Week material, even, because routine procedural 40-man roster churn and the loss of perfunctory and oft-injured AA/AAA minor leaguers who arenít even in our Top 30, has become kindling for the critics who desperately want to find their way across the offseason by the (gas)light of Rick Hahnís burning effigies.

The White Sox should keep Danny Mendick over Charlie Tilson? Come on people, do a little research....
