They just made the change to AAA baseballs this year.

I'd be for that, too, if it means he's in Chicago by August.

Barring Robert signing an Eloy style extension, I'd be surprised if they don't do the mid-April thing next year for the extra year of control.

Robert seems less likely to sign that kind of extension because of his massive signing bonus.

I agree thatís the most likely outcome, but really, what would their excuse be?

With Eloy, they legitimately could say he needed to work on his defense. They may or may not have been sincere, but we can all now see that Eloy still needs significant defensive improvement.

With Robert, his defense is already there. He could play CF at an elite level anywhere. And heís hitting as well as Eloy did.

The only thing they might be able to claim with any degree of credulity is that Robert needs to work on not jamming his thumb when he slides.

They need to tell him he's no longer allowed to slide head first into a base, period. More and more people around baseball are saying to slide foot first 100% of the time.

But I'm in the bring Robert up this summer camp.

The could claim Robert simply needs at bats. He only has 470 at bats since coming stateside. This is the first full, healthy season he's had.

With the state of the major league rotation, contending is unlikely, so there's really no reason to push Robert up to the big league level and lose a year of control. As much as we want to see him in Chicago, I'd rather have him for a year within the window of contention than for a couple months at the end of a non-contending season.

Interesting. As a non-power hitter, hopefully he doesn't see a steep decline in production like most of the outfielders experienced early this year. Obviously there's the increase in the level of competition so there should still be a learning curve, but hopefully not as dramatic as for others.

Almost all the interesting prospects keep piling up in Birmingham.

Ramon Torres is strictly filler- so maybe he's gone. Or maybe they promote Trey to AAA as a final sink or swim move for him? He's not going to get any playing time with Forbes at 3rd and now Madrigal at 2nd.

Gavin Sheets over his last 10 games: .293-4-14, his development has been slow, but steady- if he keeps this up, he could be in Charlotte later this summer. Only 23 yo- so I think he's still a viable prospect.

Yes, Sheets still has plenty of time to prove himself. If he were 26 today, it would be a cause of concern.

His only problem is that he falls behind Vaughn if Vaughn moves as fast as everyone hopes, but that's a good problem the Sox would have if Sheets is major-league ready a year or two from now. You trade for need, and the Sox, in my estimation, need a lot more starting pitching, so they can trade off some prospects a year or two from now. If Madrigal, Robert, and Vaughn all reach their potential, there's not many starting position available on the Sox.
