In my top three. A helluva tough out and one of the toughest competitors ever to take the field.

Sucks...

Great player. Those Orioles teams of the mid and late 1960's were unreal. He still ranks 10th all-time with 586 homers. In 21 seasons, Robbie only struck out 100+ times once. ONCE!! Times have changed.

Fabulous player who never took any ****. MVP, many times an All-Star, won the Triple Crown in 1966. First African-American manager in MLB.

Also he was a guy the Sox tried to get in the 60's, the offer they made to Cincinnati was better than the one they eventually took from Baltimore. Another one of those "might have been" that changed the course of the franchise.

RIP to truly a great, great player.

Another Home Run Derby contestant has left us. Only Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Rocky Colavito and Al Kaline remain.

The kind of hitter you wanted up there with the game on the line.
A real class act who played the game the way it was meant to be played, may he rest in peace.

He had a great quote about competing against Hank Aaron (a man he respected and visa versa)

"If Hank hit one (home run), I wanted to hit one...if he hit two, I wanted to hit two...if he hit three? I stayed at two!" (LOL)

Default RIP F Robby

I only remember him from his Baltimore years, but what a great player he was. He played the game hard, and he played to win. God help you if you were the other teamís Second Baseman and F Robby got on base via the HBP. Look out!

When I was a kid growing up in the 60ís and 70ís collecting baseball cards, playing baseball, watching baseball it seemed like every Fall you could count on Frank Robinson and the Orioles being in the World Series or fighting for the Pennant.

Iíve often said my All Time NL Outfield would be LF- Aaron. CF- Mays. RF- F Robinson or Roberto Clemente. I still canít decide they were both that great.

His Triple Crown year in 1966 made him an instant legend in Baltimore, and when he retired his 586 HR were good for 4th on the All Time list. I remember thinking to myself at the time, in the entire history of the game and ONLY three people hit more HR than Frank Robinson.

Great player and competitor. Would have loved to see Frank in the Palehose. Would have been a nice duo of Floyd and Frank Robinson slapping the ball all over the field and out of the park. Rest In Peace Frank. A trailblazer and justifiable Hall of Famer. Wish I still had your Topps card with you Side Kick Vada Pinson. Doesnít hurt you also tossed the round ball around with Bill Russell. Might be when those competative juices were formed.
