Jose Abreu received a QO. Will he just accept it, or will he try to get a guaranteed 2nd year from the Sox and push the deal closer to $30 million?

The QO really hurts his leverage, because no one is giving up a draft pick to sign Jose Abreu.

And no one's paying him 2/$30 either...well they shouldn't. The QO reduces his chances of a multi-year deal, but it gives him a big overpay for a 1 year deal.

I figure 2/$30, with a club option that can kick it up to 3/$41.

$11
$11
$11 option or $2 buyout
$2 deferred
$2 deferred
$2 deferred
$2 deferred if option is exercised.

Am I imagining that this board has been more alive since the fossilized Home Page went down? Connection?

I think it has less to do with the homepage and more to do with excitement about the future.

Plus, that excitement is magnified by the huge **** sandwiches that the Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks are forcefeeding us.

The QO is for $17.8M, which really isn’t much of an overpay.

Whether they sign him to a multi-year deal probably is tied to whether they sign a DH like JDM. If you assume Vaughn will be ready at some point in 2021, they would need the DH spot available if they want to keep Abreu around.

Edit: well I was obviously a little behind the day's news when I mentioned JDM

Daniel Palka (who was DFA'd when we signed Grandal) cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Charlotte.

Can Charlotte refuse to accept him?

What I'd like is for Charlotte to refuse to give him up.

In Fegen's most recent article he mentioned that the Sox look to be DFA'ing Burr to make room on the 40-man, but that there's a good chance he passes through waivers because he's injured. Here's the tweet from FutureSox:
