Not a single one of these guys appears to be a good fit for the White Sox.

Gerrit Cole is a good fit on every major league roster. But...at 30 he will get a 6 year commitment at minimum, probably closer to 8, and will get a minimum of $25 million per year (and that's being conservative).

Cole would be a good fit here...nay, a great fit. But it won't happen because we're not going to give $200 million to a guy 4 years older than our previous splash target. If they're not willing to go 10 years on a 26 year old position player, it's not a stretch to suggest that 6+ years to a 30 year old at any position is also off the table.

Same argument with Rendon and Ozuna. Both will be 30ish.

Cole is a definite fit but that wont happen. The Sox have their DH for a long time now playing LF so no need for abreu. I dont see anyone else.

Yeah I think the gaps on this team are going to be filled by trades rather than FA signings.

Abreu is actually a horrible fit for the future of the team. From a non emotional standpoint we are talking about an aging 1b who needs to DH half the time with rapidly declining skills. Love the guy, but we should have dealt him when he had value.

Who's your favored replacement, currently in or out of the Sox organization?

In my dream situation we can get JD Martinez. I am hoping we get Andrew Vaughn in the draft and he is our long term answer at 1b.

While he is a really sad consolation prize to this offseason, Rendon could be a good sign if you can convince him to move to first.

Eloy seems destined to DH sooner than later.

1b is not a hard position to fill, so you don't need to spend a ton on it (which is kind of counter to Rendon). If Abreu keeps declining, paying him 15-18 per is just a total waste of money. While I like him, he has fallen completely off a cliff.

There is also going to be value in the trade markets at first base.

Another name I love is Luken Baker, who may be in play from St. Louis with the Goldy extension. He may be a year away and not ready next year but the kid has all kinds of potential.

I don't think we have out future 1b in our farm. I don't think Collins is going to be a major league bat and his glove is not going to stay at C, but a 1b can't hit .220. Sheets has shown zero and his power has not come. I would not be shocked if we end up with 3 quality OF to see one shifted there. I will say, Burger is a wild card, I have zero idea what to expect from him, but its really hard to lose a year of offensive development.

Iím ready to move on instead of overpaying at arguably the easiest position to fill.

If Martinez isn't in Boston, it's because he fell off a cliff or someone offered him an insane base salary, like $40 million.

They'd be great if we were a contending team right now. But they're too old for the White Sox window.

We'll know more about where things will be next year later this year. A lot will depend on Lopez, Gio and Cease. If all three of those come out of this year looking like solid rotation pieces then next year a window definitely opens and the Sox can get more aggressive in pursuing fill in pieces to make next year a serious playoff run. I'm still thinking Kopech won't really be a factor until 2021 though he will pitch next year just not expecting him to really regain form until the following season.

A lot of things left to figure out this year and the development of the players above along with Robert and Madrigal will tell us a lot about where the team is going and what it's needs will be in coming seasons. I'd love to have Yasmani Grandal but it's going to depend on length of contract and the Sox might not want to commit to the number of years he will ask for and I can understand why.
