Professional drafts are all crap shoots to a certain extent but probably none bigger than baseball. With that said, and based solely on scouting reports and stats, I really hope it isn't Kendall. Those K numbers are pretty scary.

From this morning's MLB.com mocks:

11. White Sox
Mayo: J.B. Bukauskas, RHP, North Carolina - Many figured Bukauskas would go in the top 10, but a rough regional start may have dinged him just enough to get him down to Chicago, which likes college arms when possible.
Callis: J.B. Bukauskas, RHP, North Carolina - Barring an unexpected slide, Chicago figures to choose between Bukauskas, Beck, Kentucky first baseman Evan White and Missouri State third baseman Jake Burger.

John Manuel at Baseball America had Pavin Smith and notes that the Sox need "polished" hitters, knocking Adell specifically.

Pavin Smith's low K rate is off the charts.

Would love to get him.

Anyone but a pitcher. They've got plenty of potential impact pitchers right now in the system.

Impact hitters?

Not really.

The next few drafts they need to concentrate on hitters / position players desperately.

I'd normally go best either way, but seeing teams not willing to trade their premier position player prospects for pitching leads me to start putting a higher grade on position players. Unless it's one of those "once in a lifetime" game changing power arms (which I don't see out there right now)

That's a very shortsighted way to look at the draft. You take the best player available in my opinion. If the Sox think there is an absolute star ace available at pick 11 it would be dumb to pass on him for a position player with a lower ceiling just because they have top pitching prospects already in the system.

It's a tough call. On one hand you want the best player possible, but on the other you have a very thin farm system with regards to position players. I can't imagine the Sox passing on one of the top college arms though.

For some reason, a ton of smoke is starting today on J.B. Bukauskas

I actually love the kid, and I called this in January

Be very funny if this comes true for me.

I don't mind a pitcher over a hitter honestly. In baseball, go with your BPA. Too much variability to worry and you can always turn a great pitcher into a few great hitters.

Yep, a few weeks ago Bukauskas was considered top 5. One bad start and...poof.

See Love's post a few comments above this one.

Short, not a great delivery....heard this song before.
But I agree - best player available, period.
Should also do the same when peddling veterans.
Sox can always trade pitching prospects for position prospects.

Are you thinking Carson Fulmer or someone else?

Yeah, and Danish.
Maybe his delivery is more stable than Fulmer or Danish, but it has issues from what I've read.

You got your wish for the first two picks...
