Aaah... missed them on the schedule last night. Thought this was the first time.

Basabe looks very raw in the outfield. He overran a ball in CF and had to reach back across his body to catch it. He then dropped the ball and it was called a no catch. Similar to what I saw in his brief spring training stint. Lots of speed but he needs work.

SS Johan Cruz has looked good so far. Nothing spectacular but he has made all the plays.

Just watched Willy Garcia's first ML at-bat. Nice gapper double to left-center even if he did get thrown out at third. Maybe we'll end up having gotten lucky picking him up from Pittsburgh. Here's hoping!

If Dane Dunning keeps pitching like he has in his first two starts, how long till he gets promoted?

It depends on the situation on Winston-Salem's staff. I imagine it wouldn't be until June, there's really no reason to push him up.

If he is clearly outclassing the competition they will move him up and will make room for him if necessary. And it will be the right thing to do. Keeping him challenged is different than rushing a guy.

Yeah, true. I'm not sure what to expect going forward, I'm not very familiar with him.

Scouting report I read last year essentially classed him as a future innings eater with good control, a lively fastball, better than avg slider, and a propensity for giving up the long ball. I'd be curious to know how his changeup is coming along so far this season. Being able to change speeds effectively is probably what will make or break him as a starter. He doesn't have a Rodon-level fastball/slider combo, so he really needs an effective change.

Couple more starts like that and he'll be in Winston-Salem. He doesn't appear to be challenged by this league.

And... Micker Adolfo is hitting baseballs!

Another thing to look at is the Winston-Salem rotation. It is full of non-prospects of little consequence to the organization.

Anyone know anything about Joel Booker or Mitch Roman at Kannapolis? They are both starting the season on fire.

Booker plays the outfield, is 23, and was a 22nd round pick in 2016. Tore up rookie ball at both levels last year and apparently has serious base stealing ability.

Roman is a SS, age 22, and was 12th round pick in 2016. He tore up Great Falls last year and is doing even better at Kannapolis this year.

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about them and whether they have a chance to continue this as they progress through the organization.
