Hansen struggled a little with control but limiting damage with 4 walks, 6 Ks and 2 ER on 3 hits over 4 IP. Just good to see him pitching again--I don't know what exactly it is but I've had a gut feeling since he broke out last year that he's gonna end up being the most dominant of all these arms we've got. It's a fools errand to dream this big on projection but I'm drooling over the possibility of him and Kopech forming a Scherzer-Strasburg type 1-2 punch a few years down the road.

And a double to plate two more. Probably gets promoted towards the end of year.
He's hitting .351 w/RISP= 44 RBIs in 57 games.

I liked the starters' performances tonight.

Rigler (Kanny) - 6 5 1 1 2 5

Martinez (W-S) - 6 4 1 0 2 4

Hansen (Birm) - 4 3 3 2 2 4 6 - second start after DL stint, improving

Adams (Char) - 6.1 5 3 3 3 6

and of course Giolito was 7 5 2 2 2 8 before allowing hits to the first two batters in the eighth. I would not have let him start the inning.

Why? He has to learn how to learn how to pitch, how to handle innings, how to handle adversity.

Because he needs to finish a start on a high note, once in a while, for his mental health. There was no need to send him out for the eighth.

2nd game of a DH, pitch count at 90, used 3 relievers in game 1- I can understand Rentaria's logic.

I don't know if this matters to a player's "mental health"- he knows he had a great outing, he's going to review the video to see/validate what he was doing differently...I think Giolito ending on a high note was more important to the fan's mental health than his.

I think that's overblown. He got the win. He pitched a very solid game. I don't think he's going to go back to the locker room and stew over the two singles, especially since the second one was just a good piece of hitting on a real nice breaking ball.

Booker slashing .778/.800/1.000 so far at AA. Small sample sizes are fun.

Reliever Ian Hamilton also had a great debut at AAA last night:
1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3K

Now with more HRs in a season than in the entirety of his minor league career. I like.

Jimmy Lambert at 89 pitches after 8 innings; will he get a complete game?

This despite 5 hits and 11 strikeouts so far.

No. Tyler Johnson on for the ninth.

Great start for MLB Pipeline's #29 Sox prospect.

Dunning left his game after 3 2/3 with an elbow injury.
