Fangraphs updates their top 25 prospects

Quote:
The White Sox seem to have some clear tendencies in the types of prospects they have acquired during this rebuild overseen by GM Rick Hahn: power arms rather than command ones, power bats rather than contact ones, prospects with pedigree over late bloomers. Itís produced a top-heavy system with 10-12 premium prospects for whom itís easy to see a role on a championship club followed by depth types that are more single-tool back-of-the-roster players with limited upside than projection types with big upside.

It's really not worth quibbling about, but 2005 and roughly half of 2006 was good Contreras. After that he was either borderline average or awful.

Zack Collins could see himself on top 50 lists by end of year if he keeps this up. Something clicked for him. The man basically has a .500 obp.

I didn't believe this at first, but then I looked. He's not at .500, but it's still impressive at .452. But what really impresses me:

K%: 24.4 (same as last year!)
BB%: 26.9 (up 2.5% from last year!)

The eye on this kid is unreal.

Having a catcher be a capable bat takes such a load off of your offense.

His May has been crazy. Coming into today, his OBP for the month was .496 and he's reached base on 3 of his 5 PAs so far.

Collins and Eloy have been a two-man wrecking crew.

Collins with dat .275 average after today's game. Add another BB, 1 2B, and 2 RBI.

You're right. He's been a two-man wrecking crew with Jimenez.

(lost in this, Zavala as C today has 3 hits and a run scored)

You know, there is a running joke that this club doesn't scout well but seeing Collins, Gonzalez, Zavala, and some of the pitchers in A ball makes me wonder if we have made too much of the negative criticism.

Ever since he got that video from the University of Miami he's been on a tear.
