They're in a different league. Waivers run through the player's league first.

Add him to the hired mercenary list. Claim him, offer 1/$10, see if he takes it and avoids the hearing. Itís an immediate roster upgrade that costs no prospects. Then you donít have to trade Collins, Walker, Rutherford, or anyone else of that caliber.

Also Oís-related: they are actively shopping Dylan Bundy. It looks like any short-term player who makes any money whatsoever is available for the right price. Maybe Angelos gave marching orders to trim anything and everything possible off the payroll.

Chris Davis and Adley Rutschman! Get it done, Hahn!

I'm not sure he'll be claimed. He's valuable, but not worth $10 million. There's a lot of 2B on the market, it's saturated. We could probably sign him outright after he clears if we want to.

The fact that not a single team offered the Os something to keep him from being waived says the league agrees with you on his value not matching his arb #.

Sox should pick him up and sign Avi. Villar covers second until Madrigal's called up, then goes into super sub role. Villar and Avi cover right field and go into DH rotation. Villar's about the best you could get as a one year stop gap probably. By May you'd have

Grandal
McCann
Collins

Abreu
Madrigal
Moncada
Anderson
Villar
Leury

Jimenez
Robert
Avisail/Villar
Engel

Then focus the big money on the pitching staff.

No more Avi, he had a pretty pedestrian year especially with the juiced ball. Would rather see us try and find a true impact bat, preferably left handed

Avi had a great season with his bat last year.

In an indoor stadium.

Please, no Villar. Utilityman is one position we have covered.

I have to disagree! Villar is only 28 and is much better than anyone the Sox have as a utility player. He can also DH and provides speed on the base path! If the price is right sign him!

We donít have it covered by anyone who deserves to make starts at the major league level.

Few utilitymen do. Leury is pretty good for that role, as was Yolmer, who the Sox deemed expendable (arguably for the wrong reasons, but Villar is even more expensive.)

Leury is only useful for that role if he is making the league minimum for a team that is not at all concerned with winning games. Neither of those apply here.

Well, Iím not going to argue heís better than Villar, but heís cheaper and even more versatile. There certainly isnít room for all three of them (including Mendick).

A player like Villar - who should be starting somewhere - as a utility player is a luxury.

If you can get him at close to minimum salary, of course he's the best option. If you don't have a max payroll, of course he's the best option. But in general nobody is even paying $5 million/year to a utility player.

So it's going to depend. If there's a market for him, he's still going to earn $8 million and possibly get a multi-year commitment. There's a lot of 2B on the market, so it could drive his value down to acceptable for a utility role. But odds are probably not. And the worst thing the Sox could do is spend starting 2B money on someone when that position is a placeholder for like 15 games.
