To give you an idea of how messed up this service time rule is, in 2015 he:

Was by far their best player in spring training
Played in 151 games
Had 650 PA

Oh and he had 171 days total, where you need 172 to get the full year. But MLB still awarded him Rookie of the Year even though they didn't consider his first season an actual year. This is clearly a case of a team acting in bad faith even if they followed the rules. The MLBPA gave up earning power for the younger players in return for a bag of magic beans and now they're bitching that it's biting them in the ass.

The owners have got to love Tony Clark for this.

This is huge. I can only imagine that it further upsets Bryant’s camp.
I agree that he will be traded now that teams know he’s not a one year rental.

It really says something about the state of the mlbpa and it's current leadership that this grievance was driven by a player and his agent as opposed to the mlbpa. Maybe it's time to get an experienced labor attorney back in charge of the union rather than a former player

Don't Generally grievances have to be filed on behalf of at least one injured individual? I know that's true for lawsuits. Bryant can prove he was harmed. The MLBPA might not be able to make that claim other than on behalf of an individual like Bryant. Not sure on the rules for these types of arbitration grievances.

Either way and as expected it will need to be addressed in the next CBA.

Margalus is a great writer and I agree with him about Kopech. I'm willing to bet that unless Kopech is lights out in ST, he'll start the season in AAA and gets brought up in late May.
