Default 2020 Draft Pick Order Watch

As of today the Sox would pick 9th:

1 - Tigers (.297)
2 - Orioles (.329)
3 - Marlins (.360)
4 - Royals (.362)
5 - Blue Jays (.390)
6 - Mariners (.411)
7 - Rockies (.418)
8 - Pirates (.436)
9 - SOX (.443)

10 - Padres (.460)

11 - Angels (.461)

It looks like the Tigers will pick #1 overall for the 2nd time in 3 years in June.

Sucks, we were at one point a serious contender for #6.

The Sox are tied with Pittsburgh for 8th worst record going into today's game.

What's the tiebreaker between the two if they are still tied at year-end?

I believe head to head (loser getting better pick), and if not strength of schedule (easier schedule getting the better pick).

Actually it has nothing to do with either of these, it is based on the previous year's record. The team with the worse record the previous year will get the better pick.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_...ft#Draft_order

Which is good news for the Sox because the only teams who were worse then the last year (KC and Baltimore) are safely ahead of them in draft order.

Looking at early summer ratings for next year's class, it looks like ~10 could be a sweet spot for a pitcher. We'll see how it all shakes out with value hitters dropping, but I want the best arm we can get in this next one. There's apparently a bunch of fireballers with good frames and clean arms, there.

The Sox are still at #9 as of today. The Pirates are 1/2 game worse than the Sox at #8. The Angles have lost 2 out of their last 10 and are only 1.5 games better than the Sox at this point at #10.

The Sox are now tied in the win column with both the Pirates and the Rockies. The Sox have played one fewer game, and they would win the tiebreaker against both teams (i.e., they would get the better draft pick), so they're one extra loss away from the 7 seed.

The Mariners at #6 are theoretically within striking distance, but they're 3 games "up" so it's unlikely. Blue Jays are 6 up.

We're 5-14 in our last 19 games.

The Sox would pick 7th if the season ended yesterday. Their record is 1/2 game worse than Colorado and tied with Pittsburgh.

Now with Giolito done for the season, they might have no trouble holding that spot. They're still 3 games better than Seattle for the #6 spot.

Let's do it. Let's avenge the 2000 White Sox by taking that #6 spot.

With one slight modification. Covey should start every fourth day.
