Brian Cashman to MLB.com: "I don't think it really matters what we wind up doing, as long as we do well enough that we become the best team in baseball. We're capable of being big-game hunters. We've reset our luxury tax."

Be afraid people...be very afraid.

Sorry, but no. Don't fear the Yankees. I prefer to loathe them.

Yankees get Paxton. They still need pitching but more money for them to go after one of the free agent sluggers.

White Sox re-sign Skole. Can they afford all three of Skole, Machado, and Harper?

According to MLB.com Garrett Richards has a deal with San Diego, two years, 15 million. Can earn as much as 18 million with incentives.

All of the Mets fans I know are up in arms, this is a pretty puzzling move for them.

From what I'm seeing, this is the deal,

Mets get:
  • Cano
    Diaz
    $60 million

Mariners get:
  • Bruce
    Bautista
    Swarzak
    Dunn
    Kalenic

I...sort of get this. The Mariners are basically buying prospects by taking on veterans. Cano can still play even without the juice. But other than that I don't see why the Mets want Cano so badly...

Edit: Actually, this does make sense for the Mets. They get to dump salary and get $60 million in return. Plus Diaz is a good bullpen piece.

It's not necessarily the way I would run a team, but with $60 million in cash, the Mets are getting Cano at a greatly reduced contract value, and they are strengthening their bullpen with one of the best closers in the game who also is cost-controlled and under team control for several more seasons. Perhaps the Mets are attempting to bounce back into contention quickly. If they truly believe their window of contention remains open, they might be able to make another free agent acquisition in an effort to compete in the admittedly tough NL East.

Their starting staff is dynamite- when healthy. That's the biggest if.

Instead of non-tendering Avi, why not try to flip him for Bruce, save the M's some money, and get someone like Justin Dunn for ourselves?

Hoping for a rebound season out of Bruce puts us in the same situation we would have been in if we held Avi and hoped for a rebound season out of him, but we add another high-quality arm to the system.

I really doubt that Seattle thinks Garcia is someone that they want to include in their rebuild. I'm sure the Sox would have considered that trade but I doubt Seattle would have. Garcia at this point is a waiver wire player.

They don’t want to include Bruce in their rebuild, either. He was just a 2-year, $26 million salary dump by the Mets. Avi would have lessened that dumped salary considerably by costing less than Bruce in 2018 and costing nothing in 2019.
