From what I can see, Nick Madrigal accepted and invitation to Cape Cod League in 2017 but never played there. He was on the USA Collegiate National Team that summer. Steele Walker and Konnor Pilkington also played for that team.

If that was where he used wood bats, that was only about 70 plate appearances, and they took place over a year ago. I'm leaning towards ignoring his numbers completely the rest of this year and in 2019 Spring Training. With all the ability he showed at Oregon State, I will consider the rest of this year a success for him if he acclimates to the wood bats and makes his presence felt in the infield and on the basepaths.

Just heading off any potential fears. Sports fans aren't always the most rational bunch.

Looks like you're right, my mistake. So then that's even more of an expected adjustment period. And as has been said, even in as few at-bats as he's had, that 0% K-rate is great to see--that eye and contact ability is downright amazing, and shows beyond stud potential. Really excited to have this kid in the organization.

Jimenez is back from the DL and went 2 for 5 last night. For W-S, Gonzalez was 2 for 5 and Sheets was 4 for 4.

Recent signees Madrigal, Walker, and Bush each had a hit for the AZ summer team. It was Walker's first career hit as a professional player.

Madrigal is now moving on to Kannapolis.

Of course he hasn't looked like the same pitcher, he's missed a ton of time and working himself back into form. It's only a big deal if it leads to TJ or something else.

Nice to see Corey back at it. After his first season he was recognized as having the most raw power in the entire system. He worked a lot with Thome after his disappointing 2016 season, hopefully it pays dividends.

Charlotte tonight announced catcher Seby Zavala was placed on the DL with a wrist injury. Still being evaluated.

It continues...

Professional sports are physically strenuous professions with a high risk of bodily injury.

Very true and they continue to hit the Sox hard at all levels with no apparent end in sight.

Jimenez apparently not rusty from his DL stint. He went 2 for 5 yesterday with a double.

Laz Rivera hit a walk off grand slam in the bottom of the 10th with 2 outs and the Dash down by 2. He was 3 for 5 for the night.

Bennet Sousa, this year's 10th round pick, pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings in his debut for Kannapolis after being promoted from Great Falls.

Madrigal has not had a strike out in 20 plus at bats. We have found a keeper.

Nick's line from his debut Kannapolis game today:

4 AB, 2 R, 3 H, 0 RBI, 1 BB, 0 K, 0 LOB, SB, 2B, 5 A, 0 E, DP (Madrigal - Curbello - Villa)

.750 / 1.000 / 1.800

Yeah, that's a keeper. I guess he's figured out wooden bats.
