Low risk...maybe (notice I said maybe) some "reward" down the line.

Scotty P, regardless of his diminished skills as a player, could be extremely valuable in teaching base-stealing techniques to minor leagers and even players on the roster. I think it's a great pick-up. I see him having a ton of value as a bench coach or first base coach in the future.

Welcome back Scotty!

They optioned him to AAA for Dexter Fowler (who's batting .294 and has 2 HR) and he wants to play in the big leagues. Clearly he sees that opportunity with the Sox.
If I were KW, I'd allow him to play in the bigs in exchange for Lisa.

I think you need to reserve that comment until he's actually starting in Chicago. Right now, this looks like a roster move... for the Knights.

If he can still steal bases and fill in at lead off, he can help the team. However, we might need to rip off his arm and put a bionic arm on there to help with the throws from the outfield.

Ozzie says its Brian's job to lose. How much Owens or Pods play is a direct correlation to BA's performance.

By signing a veteran to go to AAA and play in a spot that Jerry Owens sat in, while Owens fills in for Wise?

Sorry - I don't see what straws he is grasping at. It's no different than Ben Broussard or Brad Eldred.

Welcome back Scott!

Hopefully he'll do well enough in AAA to bring him into the MLB mix.

Trade Quentin for Rowand, Alexei for Uribe, Fields for Crede.

It's all coming together. . .

Why are you amazed that fans want Pods over Owens? What exactly has Owens done to warrant any confidence in our fans? I've never seen Owens be able to consistently hit MLB pitching for any stretch. I've never seen good defense out of Jerry Owens for any stretch. All Jerry Owens has contributed to this club was a handful of stolen bases back in 2007 and the yearly promise of "great speed if he could only hit" in both 2008 and 2009. I've actually seen Pods have success at the MLB level both in Milwaukee and in Chicago with my own eyes. Pods has a hall of fame resume compared to Owens. I am actually more amazed that people would want Owens over Pods. That being said, I actually think Josh Kroeger had a great Spring and should have gotten the call and the roster spot when Wise went down. He is probably better suited to bench duty than Pods and would make more sense as a 4th outfielder. We'll just have to wait and see how this plays out. There just isn't enough information yet.

This isn't a bad move by any stretch. I just hope everyone realizes Pods played LF for the Sox, when he was much faster and healthier. He was clinging on to LF by playing way over his head that season.

Ozzie might get so desperate for a leadoff hitter, Pods will get called up... or Owens will play everyday. This can't happen. They need Defense in CF more than a leadoff hitter.

If the Sox slump like last season, then you try to get a spark in the batting order. As of right now, PK, Dye, Thome, Quentin all seem to be playing fine. If Fields doesn't struggle, I wouldn't worry about run production. Should be plenty of opportunity to compete with great pitching and defense.
