I thought Cordell was going down to make space for Santana on Tuesday?

Maybe Fulmer comes up to augment the bullpen today, and then another reliever with options goes down tomorrow to make room for Santana to start?

Doesn't really say. The notification I got is citing a tweet from the Sox.

Could be they don't think Santana is ready and they might be thinking financially because if he's never ready they don't want to pay him the $4.3M and until he's called up they can cut him for his minor league price tag.

Does this mean Fulmer has to stay with the team or go through waivers to be sent back down?

I gotta believe that after the game, Jose Ruiz will be sent back to Charlotte to make room for Ervin Santana. Given the heavy usage of the bullpen, it makes sense to have an extra arm (Fulmer's) available.

I don’t believe so. Sending Fulmer to start the year in Charlotte was the action that trigger his fourth option year. He can be sent back and forth throughout the year.

Assuming he remains with the Sox throughout this season and offseason, he would have to be released through waivers to be sent to the minors in 2020.

Sox designated Santana for assignment this morning and reinstated Eloy.

He's likely to decline, so this is probably the end of the Ervin Santana era.

If you're looking for your posts criticizing the Santana signing they're in the Rick Hahn thread in WTS.

We now have 19(!) games without a day off, followed by another 18(!) games without a day off.

I wish they would have called up a reliever to replace Santana, then optioned an outfielder to call up a spot starter for the next Giolito start.

Does anything preclude them from doing that during the 19-game stretch? Sincere question.

Well on the bright side, I expect tomorrow's game to be postponed since we're under a winter storm watch with 4-8" of snow predicted.

I don't know if they'll simply have the make up on Sunday as a DH or if the make up game will be later in the season.
