I'll go because I always get the weekend pass but I'm not too optimistic about the change

Sounds like they'll be able to accommodate a lot more people. Won't be the after party atmosphere like there is at the hotel, but purely from a convention perspective sounds a lot better. Hopefully they will still have a room block somewhere so fans can get some kind of discounted rate and enjoy the company of each other and maybe a few players.

This is excellent. I will attend for the first time in like 15 years.

Absolutely, McCormick place is made for these types of events.

McCormick Place has three hotels and lots of ballrooms. I don't think it'll be much different.

I work in the event industry, running events and conferences at the hotels downtown and at McCormick, and have worked internally at many venues in my career (including McCormick). This is the best place in the city to hold an event like this.

Agreed - this sounds like a great upgrade in location.

I did not know there were hotels at McCormick. Then this is a no-brainer move.

They've got a Marriott Marquis, a Hyatt, and a Hilton property that contains three of the Hilton hotel branches. Plenty of rooms.

I never went (except to attend WSI get-togethers ) because I don't need or want to pay for a hotel room in my own neighborhood. Now I will attend. With the number of nearby hotel rooms, the availability of other local accommodations, and the number of Sox fans who live within a short distance all having sharply increased in recent years, it makes no sense to tie attendance to a mandatory stay at a specific hotel. I think that those attendees who were disappointed at various physical limitations that affected lines etc. will be pleased at the wide-open spaces of a convention center. A really smart move, and not a moment too soon.

Public trans options abound. For those who don't take the Green Line L that often: it now stops at Cermak. Those taking the Red Line from the north can transfer to the Green at Roosevelt; from the Brown or Blue, transfer on the elevated Loop -- Clark and Lake is easiest for the Blue. The CTA Number 3 King Drive bus (starts at Chicago Avenue, goes south on Michigan Avenue) drops you right at the door of McCormick Place West.

You would not recognize the area if you have not been there in the past five years or so. The neighborhood has many bars and restaurants. A lot of development has gone on there.
