Yogi Berra read this thread and said it is Deja Vu all over again.

Yeah, the state of sports sucks in that respect, particularly in the NBA and MLB, and maybe (Dolphins?) sneaking into the NFL.

But it's the way of the business right now, and I've just learned, coupled with the team's general futility the past decade, to make day-to-day results fairly insignificant to me until there is a reason to care again.

It's sad that I have been with my wife for 7 baseball seasons and she's never seen me actually care for longer than like May.
Ridiculousness across all sports:

(1) "You have no valid opinion because you never played the game."
(2) "Stats are irrelevant. This guy just doesn't know how to win."

I haven't really cared about the losses from 2017-2019 because I understood what the Sox were trying to do and was on board with it.

2020, though, is where the not trying to win phase needs to end. I don't expect a World Series contender right away, but I do expect an honest effort from the front office to plug the holes in RF, DH and 5th starter. I don't care if it's through long-term contracts or short term stopgaps, but they need to have an MLB caliber bat at every position--no more nonsense like Leury Garcia as a starting right fielder.

I think 85ish wins and contending for a wildcard into September is a reasonable expectation for next year.
