Default Sox sign Cishek

Per Jeff Passan, Sox and Cishek sign a one-year, $6m deal. Contract includes an option for a second year at $6M. https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/statu...06699572682752

Not a bad move for only $6mil and 1 year. His K rate went down and walks went up last year which isn't great. Always has seemed to have a low ERA, but not really the best indicator of a good reliever. Like that he doesn't give up many hits. Seems like a decent 6-7th inning guy at this point.

The Sox still don't really have a big strikeout guy in their pen. This doesn't take them out of adding a better guy in July.

He pitched well for the Cubs until Maddon started using him six days a week,

Really, the last worthwhile guy to try and make sure we never see the likes of Jose Ruiz and his 2 WHIP ever again.

Well, with all the days off in April, we won't have to worry about that until May.

Not bad. His FIP took a jump last year but he can still miss bats. If anything it's a good depth piece.

Cishek is a good Chicago name. Probably has some relatives on the Northwest or Southwest sides.

While other equal relievers got 2+ years, you have the like the no risk deal here with only 1 year.

Closer - Colome

R1 - Marshall (with hope Herrera jumps up to take this)
L1 - Bummer

R2 - Cishek
L2 - Fry

MR - Herrera, Cordero, Other

Herrera actually closed last year really strong once he got healthy. I expect him to have a very solid season as a late inning reliever.

Question: does this signing cost us a draft pick?

I like this signing. They need a crafty veteran reliever.

This was the best remaining reliever. Good signing.
