Thank you. Heís basically Leuryís anemic LH bat, with none of the defensive value or baserunning value accompanying it.

All three of them stink and hopefully we have seen the last of them after this year. Engel is a marble roller to the left or right side of the infield who is a triple A player at best!

Ricky has Jay batting leadoff again today. He thinks Jay is one of the best hitters on the team.

Right. This is no longer a matter of being short-handed. This manager shows a preference for these midget slap hitters, and he proves it on a daily basis.

Just curious, how does Omar construct his lineups in the minors?

Or, the only other option is to have Goins leadoff. Pick your poison.

Goins. Jay should not even be starting, and on the rare days when he needs to start, he should not hit anywhere except 9th. In his past 21 games, he is slashing .247/.274/.284, and that is with a .317 BABIP. Goins occasionally hits balls that make it relatively close to that big wall past the grass. Jay does not.

This wasnít a hard choice to make at all. Why is it so hard for the guy who does this for a living?

Well, I guess it makes more sense than Jay batting cleanup?

Another thought is that maybe Renteria's primary motivation in constructing a lineup is not to win on any particular day, that he's more "long term" in his objectives. This could even be a mandate from up top. The idea is that the leadoff hitter of the future is probably not currently on the roster. So why put someone like Anderson at leadoff (which might result in him altering his approach) if that's not going to be his long-term lineup position? Better to put one of the "placeholder guys" in that position, and let Anderson get used to hitting in the 7 hole.

Probably a stretch, and it doesn't explain Jay over Goins. The actual explanation probably is that Jay has more experience than Goins and Renteria irrationally values that over other more important considerations.

Omar has not impressed me one bit as a field manager.

Very hard to evaluate a field manager in the minors. They're making decisions that aren't always with winning being the primary goal.

Oftentimes, like other minor league managers, after receiving instructions for certain players from the Mothership. The goal in the minors is not winning so much as development and seeing what skill sets the players have.

Got hijacked by the anti-management agenda folks and close enough to 500 so closed.
