I love these posts. I canít rush anyone except my kid in the morning. Only the Sox FO can. Iím also not suggesting Robert is a superstar - just sharing some blurbs from scouts.

The Sox big league club is a giant dark cloud right now - do we really need the fun police keeping the MiLB thread in check?

Nothing wrong with dreaming on an uber-prospect dominating his way to the majors. Here's how it could happen:

Robert continues destroying A+ pitchers for all of April.

In response, the Sox challenge him with promotion to Birmingham, giving him the starting CF job there. To make room, Booker goes to Charlotte.

Robert continues destroying whatever AA flamethrowers throw his way, spreading line drives all over Regions Field's big gaps that he also covers when he's patrolling center field, sending other Cuban Missiles over their deep outfield walls, and stealing bases at will. He continues to be unstoppable for May and June.

Seeing that AA heat isn't a challenge for him, and that he doesn't have any defensive deficiencies that require further refinement, the Sox decide to challenge Robert with Triple-A's mix of young hurlers and ex-big leaguers who have lost velocity but still have major league breaking stuff. And let's say Robert sends their junk all over the place and over the BB&T fence with just as much alacrity and proficiency throughout July and August.

It's Labor Day weekend and the Knights have just clinched the International League South title. Robert then carries the Knights to the IL title.

It's Sept. 15. Yes, bring him up to Chicago for the last two weeks of the season.

I expect in that situation we'd be just set for another "Sox are planning to abuse the CBA rules to get an extra year of service" themed winter. Can't see Robert signing a team friendly extension either as he already has enough money for several lifetimes.

I believe he already has signed a contract friendly to the Sox, because he wanted to play for them. He reportedly had a higher offer from St. Louis when he was a free agent but chose the WSox because of their past with Cuban players.

I hope he stays friendly to the Sox whenever a new contract comes up. (He signed a minor league contract in May 2017, so not sure when that expires.)

Are the service time rules the same for international free agents like Robert? Also, could someone explain the difference between Robert's deal and Jose Abreu's, who basically got what seemed like a regular 4-year free agent contract?

Abreu came straight to the MLB club didn't he? However, he still was subject to Playing time rules. His last extension was signed when he was still arbitration eligible IIRC.

I was trying to give the optimists a fun little scenario to dream on for a bit.

I don't think what I wrote has much basis in reality.

I know it's super early, but I can see Robert making the Futures Game this year if he keeps swinging the bat like this.

All the rules stay the same.

5 years before Rule 5 eligibility necessitates a promotion to the 40-man (4 years if age 19 or older when original contract was signed)

3 option years before necessary promotion to 25-man (4 years if player has completed fewer than 5 full seasons in the minors, excluding rookie and short-season A leagues with seasons shorter than 90 days)

2 or 3 years before arbitration eligibility (2 years if player’s service time total falls within the top 22% of players in the 2.000-to-2.171 service time class)

6 years before free agency eligibility

Cease had a nice commencement to 2019: 5IP 3H, 0BBs, 5Ks.

And in limited action this year, Fulmer's GB rate is way up (grasping at straws, but there is hope)

I just hope he stays healthy. If he does, and continues to perform as he did last year, perhaps we'll see him in Chicago late this season. Can we bubble-wrap his arm?

In other good news, Hansen had his 2nd scoreless 1 inning outing tonight as they try to bring him back up to speed slowly. McClure had a decent 2019 debut for Kannapolis (4.0 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 7 K) after missing most of last season to a knee injury.

Walker and Bush are 2 for 4 and Sosa 1 for 3 so far tonight for Kanny. Walker and Sosa each had a double. Game still in progress.

A good night offensively for the top two catching prospects. They each caught a game of a doubleheader.
Zavala 1 for 3 with a double
Collins 1 for 3 with a 2-run bomb (his 4th of the season)

Weíve paid a lot of attention, and rightly so, to the depth of outfield prospects in our system.

Iíd argue that our infield is rounding into shape, too.

With Moncada and Anderson potentially solidifying themselves as the left side of the infield for much of the next decade, our infield prospects provide solid depth at second base and first base, as such:

Second base: Madrigal, Curbelo, Sosa, Nunez

First base: Sheets, Burger, Bush, Zangari

Thatís not a bad system/prospect depth chart at those positions.
