Default Opening day lineup

Assuming the team doesn't make any moves in the coming weeks, what is the opening day lineup.

My 2 cents:

Tilson...................CF Because of his great defense I hope Engle hits the crap out of the ball in ST and wins the job.

Moncada...............2B
Abreu...................1B
Avisail Garcia.........RF
Nicky D.................LF
Castillo..................C
Davidson...............DH
Yolmer..................3B
Anderson..............SS
????????...............P

I asked Hahn about the outfield situation at SoxFest, and he indicated Tilson and Cordell likely need some reps at Charlotte given the amount of time they've missed because of injuries. Tilson hasn't played, at all, in about 18 months. I don't think he makes the club.

IMO, L. Garcia will open the season as the CF, although I don't think it will stay that way all year.

Moncada 2B
Sanchez 3B
Abreu 1B
A. Garcia RF
Delmonico LF
Castillo C
Davidson DH
L. Garcia CF
Anderson SS

Shields P

FWIW, Renteria said he likes having two switch-hitters in the first two spots in the lineup. I expect to see Moncada and either Yolmer or L. Garcia up there. I'll pick Yolmer. I think he's a better player than L. Garcia.

That draft pick is going to be nice!

Has to be one of the worst lineups in all of baseball.

The Rays have blown up the team, we might have a better lineup than them and the Marlins.
The pitching staff might be the worst.

I am really excited about our staff.

Every 3 days we may get to see Gio, Reynaldo and Fulmer.

I also think Giolito is going to have a great year.

I hope you are right because I became very depressed reading that thread and article about our pitching by Fangraphs here in Sox Clubhouse.

The rotation will be fun to watch, but I think we will lose a TON of games in the 7th-8th-9th-extra innings.

And when he came back, he reverted to the same incapable bat that he always had before 2017.

He also looks every bit the part of a second baseman being miscast as an outfielder. Once a Cordell or Tilson is ready to get reps at the major league level, I wouldnít mind seeing Leury Garcia go away entirely.

I actually think our bullpen might be a surprising bright spot.

Iím assuming that anyone worthwhile will get moved in July. Even if the guys who break camp with the team do well, the second wave of guys who arrive after the trade deadline should torpedo plenty of games down the stretch.

Pretty much right there with everything you said. We’re a better team if Yolmer and Leury are primary, three-spot backups. However, Yolmer probably deserves a chance to start and Leury's upside looks infinitely better at the plate than any of the other CF candidates. There’s no chance I chose Engel as anything other than a fourth OF with the way he has looked at the plate every single time I’ve seen him in person. He just looks awful in the box.

Agreed. With a 13-man pitching staff, there is no room on the bench for a defensive replacement/pinch runner who has no chance to hit major league pitching.

In 1988, there may have been a spot on a major league roster for a guy like Adam Engel. In 2018, not so much.

Let him get every day ABs in Charlotte and hope he figures something out there and earns a first call-up for our OF. Heís not a guy I want learning how to hit on the job in the bigs.
