One would figure if ross is hired it would be before the world series, if not its Espada.

I think this would be a smart move by the Cubs. Ross seems like such a shot in the dark while Espada has been getting experience as the bench coach for the best team in the league.

Not unlike Jerry Manuel and Ozzie Guillen. "Best team in the league" may not apply to Manuel and Guillen, but both were the bench coaches on the Marlins World Series championship teams.

No surprise, but it's reportedly going to be Ross.

I'm sure Theo has already had Grandpa Rossy (or is it Rossi?) fitted with his marionette strings!

I kid you not. People actually have posted that they're "crying" over the Ross hiring, as in happy tears.

I was thinking if this guy didnt become Lesters caddy at the age of 36, he would probably have a job like the bullpen coach of the Chicago Dogs now.

Theo and Jed learned NOTHING from the Robin Ventura experience. While Ross inherits a much better roster than Ventura had in his four of his five seasons, we'll see.

My die-hard Cub fan friends are furious at the probable hiring of Ross. They are pissed that it will be Robin Ventura 2.0 and they are probably correct. None of them are for it.

But then, my friends who are Cub fans have been afflicted with the illness for 20+ years, they are not the Johnny-Come-Lately bandwagon fans who get warm and fuzzy feelings for anyone associated with the 2016 team. These people are realistic.

I can't believe the amount of people, including local sportscasters, that are giddy with excitement over this hiring.

Then again, most of them think he's worthy of the HoF.

Calling Espada back for a second interview smacks of knife twisting. Did the guy offend someone?

Just imagine if they actually win the World Series with him as manager.

Why? He's not playing? The decisions will be made up in the box.

Ross relates to today's player. In other words, he's a babysitter.

None of my die hard, baseball loving Cub fan friends like this decision.

Finding a manager who can relate to day's players is especially difficult when so many players today don't relate well to each other. Ross may be able to relate to Lester. They got along well as teammates. Whether Lester will relate to Ross being his boss is another question.

Don Gutteridge managed the 1970 White Sox for most of 1970. I've heard that he related well to players as a longtime coach for the team, but not so much as a manager. As manager, Ross won't be relating to players as a backup catcher. If he's just doing what the front office tells him to do, he won't relate to players because he won't have their respect. No manager worth hiring would work under such conditions. It's entirely possible, though, that this is why Ross ended up being hired after other candidate interviews.
