Sox add Bobby Thigpen as bullpen coach and Daryl Boston as first base coach. Baines moves to assistant hitting coach.

I've always maintained that a good first base coach should at least have been an average base stealer in his career. |

I like this. Agreed that Baines will be better used elsewhere. Love him, love that he's with us, but first base seemed an odd fit.
Also like that two more Sox names are back in the fold. This is our family. EDIT: Is there a source on this? Baggage claim?

I like it. I don't see how anyone could be opposed to this.

I would have thought a spanish speaking coach would have been brought in. Mark Salas , I believe is the only spanish speaking coach now on the staff.

Don't worry, Matt will get #37 back when he becomes our pitching coach in 2023.

Always thought the organization should have took advantage of Baines' hitting knowledge. A guy that was so good in the clutch late in the game obviously has a lot to share.
Thigpen should be able to put his experience to good use, too. Not sure about Boston. Nothing against the guy, but I agree that it would be nice to have a former base stealer at first. We had the perfect guy in Raines, but Guillen chased him away. As far as our coaching going into 2013, I'm most concerned about how our in-game pitching decisions are handled. They got worse as the 2012 season progressed. |

I disagree. Both moves look like organizational welfare for former players. It sure would be nice to see us hire qualified people from outside the organization.
