Default Sale (elbow inflammation) placed on injured list

"The Red Sox made a jarring roster move prior to Saturday’s game against the Orioles when they placed lefty ace Chris Sale on the 10-day injured list with left elbow inflammation, retroactive to Wednesday. Righty reliever Ryan Brasier was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket to take Sale’s spot on the roster."

Are the Red Sox near wildcard contention? If so, this may another convenient "injury."

Get well soon, Chris. Hope it's not something serious.

They are 6.5 games out of a wild card berth and 17 games back of the Yankees in the AL East. If he is feeling any discomfort no reason for Boston to push the envelope with Sale.

I hope it isn't a serious injury with Sale. Always loved watching him pitch and can't believe he is 30 years old already. Feels like yesterday he was 21 years old and the Sox drafted him and called him up to their pen for the first time.

Chris Sale just became the fastest pitcher ever to 2000 strikeouts and has the best ERA+ of any pitcher to not win a Cy Young award. I hope he gets to 3000 and a Cy someday.

Anyone else think he'd have one already if he had played in the AL East?

I hope he gets to the HoF too. As for winning the CY if he was in the AL East I am not so sure that would be a lock.

Sale's injury probably means Boston will enter the Gerrit Cole free agency sweepstakes (if they weren't already planning to ).

That will be tricky considering the size of their payroll and they're going to have Benintendi hitting arbitration for the first time. They also have to pay Betts and figure out how much to give Devers.
