Default *Official* 5/22/19 Tilson Slams The Astros

I was surprised that a team had turned a triple play and hit a grand slam in the same game before, but it was nice for the Sox to do it today. Eloy with two homers, Moncada with two singles, and Charlie Tilson with his first major league home run. Nice Sox win.

Wow, great game. Are Tilson and McCaan part of the big picture? Sure feels like it.

They are playing great and thanks for the reminder it was Tilson with the slam not McCann. I updated the title.

Tilson crushed that grand slam. I hope I'm wrong in thinking he's another poor man's Leury Garcia, at best.

I hope this breaks Eloy's slump!

Tilson did a great job picking up Eloy and Tim

He looks a lot more relaxed since coming back. Injuries aren't a good thing but I think it let him catch his breath and then getting a week in AAA allowed him to get grounded again.

What a fun game. Houston's only 5th home loss all season. Go Sox.

Are you talking about Jimenez?

You know who looks a lot more relaxed since coming back? Tilson. Meanwhile, Engel is batting .146 for Charlotte.

Caught this one in person. I was there at gates opening and the Sox did not take batting practice. The infielders did some practice but there was definitely downtime between the Astros exit from the field at practice and most of the Sox arrival. I assumed a team meeting or something in lieu of hitting, but thatís just speculation.

Getting to see a triple play and a grand slam made this a fun one, particularly after the last two days.

Yes I was referring to Eloy and yes Tilson looks calmer too.

Was working during the game but had Gameday up. Really loved seeing the strong comeback against a good team. All of a sudden, have a decent chance to split on the road against the best team in baseball.

Tomorrow Giolito goes for the Sox...one of the best pitchers in baseball over the last month or so. Corbin Martin for the Astros. Anyone got a read on him? Just looking over his stats, he'll be making only his 3rd big league start, and made only 29 minor league starts. Very good stats at all levels, though. Seems like the kind of pitcher that could have a lot of success against the Sox, but hope I'm wrong. If they can split with the Astros and take one from the Twins, that's a respectable road trip!

Edit: Also, a pretty solid three games on the run prevention front. Giving up an average of 4 runs per game over three games with a bullpen day, Covey, and Nova, the Sox have given up an average of 1.5 runs per game less than the Astros normally score. Not bad.

It was nice to see these highlights and box score.

It would be extra nice if the lineup were optimized.
