I'm surprised his .298 BA against the Sox isn't higher. I'd have guessed .315 or .320. The 105 RBI sounds right. It always seemed Mauer came through in the clutch against the Sox.

Great lefty swing and from everything I've read, Mauer is a solid citizen. Wish him well and I think he should be in Cooperstown someday despite not being a Cub, Red Sock or Yankee.

I hated that dude when he played the Sox, but totally respected him as a player. Definitely was one of the best pure hitters of his generation and I believe that he belongs in the hall.

They both did. Mauer moved from catcher because of ongoing concussion symptoms, including blurred vision. They realized that getting fouls off the mask was simply no longer an option for him. Then he missed several weeks early this season with concussion symptoms after diving for a foul ball. There's little question his problem was only going to get worse.

The initial idea to put a rule to put a cap on mound visits first started when Mauer was catching due to MLB's effort to speed up the games. I can recall Hawk pointing out that he had never seen a catcher go to the mound as much as Mauer did. Now there is a rule change but most catchers don't go out to the mound that much and not nearly as much as Mauer did.

Oh, no question that Mauer wore a path between home plate and the mound.
