I thought Cordell was going down to make space for Santana on Tuesday?

Maybe Fulmer comes up to augment the bullpen today, and then another reliever with options goes down tomorrow to make room for Santana to start?

Doesn't really say. The notification I got is citing a tweet from the Sox.

Could be they don't think Santana is ready and they might be thinking financially because if he's never ready they don't want to pay him the $4.3M and until he's called up they can cut him for his minor league price tag.

Does this mean Fulmer has to stay with the team or go through waivers to be sent back down?

I gotta believe that after the game, Jose Ruiz will be sent back to Charlotte to make room for Ervin Santana. Given the heavy usage of the bullpen, it makes sense to have an extra arm (Fulmer's) available.

The bullpen was pretty heavily taxed on Sunday. I think Cordell gets replaced by a reliever for a day, then Santana replaces a reliever after todayís game.

I donít believe so. Sending Fulmer to start the year in Charlotte was the action that trigger his fourth option year. He can be sent back and forth throughout the year.

Assuming he remains with the Sox throughout this season and offseason, he would have to be released through waivers to be sent to the minors in 2020.

Hypothetically, if Fulmer stays up for the entire season, then an option will not be burned. A player has to spend 20 total days in the minors for an option to be burned.

If he can continue to throw like that, no reason he can't remain on the club.

Let him work longer stints in Charlotte. The 47 today was his best outing, perhaps ever. Maybe coincidence, but maybe he's a tweener and could do some 4 inning starts.

Aha! Good to know. I like learning new things.

Heís welcome back any time if he can go three innings and give up just one run.

With all the discussion about Carson Fulmerís attempt to revive his career by providing multi-inning relief appearances, Iím wondering if Lucas Giolito should do the same thing. If Giolito does not substantially improve this year, then Dylan Cease and Michael Kopech likely both leapfrog Giolito next year. As a reliever, maybe Giolito can gain a mile or two on his fastball, and he can throw his curveball more often instead of holding it back to use the third time through the order.

Adding another guy who can do those long stintsóplus the new 3-batter minimumómay make it possible to get away with carrying just 12 relievers instead of 13. At this point, Iím in favor of anything that can reduce the impact that guys like Jose Ruiz, Juan Minaya, Bruce Rondon, or any other craptacular reliever that Cooper inexplicably falls in love with, have on the teamís fortunes.

Caleb Frare to Charlotte. Replaced on the roster by Josh Osich.
