Yeah, it looks like they chose prospects over cash.

I was told a long time ago the Dbacks weren’t trading Greinke as a salary dump. They covered his contract with their last TV deal and wanted legit prospects for him.

Just have to ask who your source is that what your stating could have even been a possibility?

Stating as a possibility based on who the Braves traded and traded for.

Verlander / Greinke / Cole

Who's beating that in the AL? Houston is so stacked.

They probably will sweep the ALDS and then have their rotation reset for the ALCS. Kudos to them. They built an amazing system, won a World Series, and now are in a position to cement a dynasty with their prospect depth.

The Sox better be REALLY aggressive in the offseason to get pitching. Missed a golden opportunity to get young close to MLB ready pitching and lot's of the veteran pitching has changed hands already.

I told the Cub in my office that the World Series trophy is being FedExed to Houston today. He asked why. I told him Greinke was sent to Houston. His jaw dropped. Even Cub fans know there is a mile-high wall between them and a WS title.

I told him that the WS will be Dodgers/Astros. It will be a donnybrook.

3 lowest current WHIPs in the AL now. Oh yeah and they have one of the best offenses in the league as well. Good luck to their playoff opponents.

The biggest "we could have done that" move was the Astros getting Aaron Sanchez for very little.
Those are the kind of moves the Sox should be searching for, and be all over: talent, some problems, reasonable to project they are fixable and at a "buy low" price.
Sure beats aging decliners.

That's why the games are played. Rosters on paper mean nothing: results do.

Yes. Though I would say rosters on paper can indicate the relative strength of one's team and their likely chances of success. But people often forget that when there is, say, a 70% chance of winning something, the 30% still happens a lot.

You mean like picking up AJ Reed?

Yes, like picking up A.J. Reed.

It’s not like Reed is the only one failing to produce since the break. Abreu is at .178/.208/.233 since the break. James McCann is at .133/.175/.283 since the break. That is every bit as bad as Reed’s .150/.222/.225 line.

At least McCann is showing decent pop when he does make contact, and at least Reed is drawing some walks. Abreu has been absolute death.

To be clear, my question was half-rhetorical in that I wasn't sure if Tragg was stating that the Sox should be should be buying low on "fixable" prospects instead of getting an "aging decliner." I posed the question because AJ Reed is one year younger (26) than Aaron Sanchez and was acquired for less than what Sanchez was. I could also cite Charlie Tilson (26 now, younger when acquired), Ryan Cordell (same age as Sanchez), Leury Garcia (23 at time of acquistion) and others.
