Jose Abreu received a QO. Will he just accept it, or will he try to get a guaranteed 2nd year from the Sox and push the deal closer to $30 million?

The QO really hurts his leverage, because no one is giving up a draft pick to sign Jose Abreu.

And no one's paying him 2/$30 either...well they shouldn't. The QO reduces his chances of a multi-year deal, but it gives him a big overpay for a 1 year deal.

I think it has less to do with the homepage and more to do with excitement about the future.

The QO is for $17.8M, which really isn’t much of an overpay.

Whether they sign him to a multi-year deal probably is tied to whether they sign a DH like JDM. If you assume Vaughn will be ready at some point in 2021, they would need the DH spot available if they want to keep Abreu around.

Edit: well I was obviously a little behind the day's news when I mentioned JDM
