Default We sold at exactly the right time on Eaton

His three years with the Sox: 15.4 WAR

His three years since: 3.1 WAR

He'll be 31 next season and on the hook for $9.5 million. If he were a free agent, we would have very little interest, even though we need a right fielder.

Nobody could have predicted his injury, but in hindsight this trade looks like grand larceny.

Reynaldo Lopez (for us): 3.7 WAR

As you allude to, only because of freak injuries he suffered.

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, but in this case the Sox were both. Add in the nearly 6 WAR they've already gotten from Giolito, and the future seasons of Giolito, Lopez, and Dunning, and this could end up as one of the best Sox trades of all time.

If it weren't for the attitude/Drake issues, I'd probably take him back as a stopgap in RF if he were to be available and we can't find better. That projected 2.5 WAR would be a huge improvement over what we had in right this year.

Even when healthy, Eaton has never looked as good here in Washington as he did with the Sox. Underwhelming is the general assessment here.

I remember we are all shocked here when the deal went down because of the return we got. We never expected Eaton to get that much for us.

So were Nat fans who had another reason to run Rizzo out of town on a rail.

Eaton's blown ACL was foreseeable given how it happened and we had been commenting on here how his stutter-step into First was an injury waiting to happen.

Eaton's WAR the last year with the Sox was inflated because of his right field defense; and the Nats didn't plan on playing him in RF anyway. His offensive production in Washington is about what it was in Chicago. Except for injuries, Nats got what they paid for.....which was too much, but he's the same player.

Another way of saying that is he played better defense for the Sox than he has in Washington. That better defense is what Washington thought they were trading for. So no, Washington has not gotten what they paid for.

Even if the Nats win the WS and no matter what role Eaton plays in that, I am and still will be glad he's gone.

Come on guys. It's pretty clear Eaton is an important cog in their current run.

The trade is in our favor. Giolitio is a much more valuable piece. But given current outcomes, there's no way the Nat's don't feel good about the deal. We won the trade, but it's a deal that worked out for both parties.

Yeah, pretty sure him and Sale burned all bridges with management due to their stupid and childish antics.
