Default Matt Harvey to be DFA’d tomorrow

According to a Mets beat guy after he refused to be sent down to the minors.

https://twitter.com/timbhealey/statu...045952517?s=21

Fangraphs had a column early in the week about spin rate on pitches and Harvey has had the greatest reduction in spin rate on his pitches over the last 3 seasons.

Also of note, they listed the top 20 guys who have seen the most decrease in spin rate and Quintana was 18 on the list.

He has to be worth a look, right? Better than throwing out MiGo every 5th day to get lit up like a cheap xmas tree. If he's more trouble than he's worth they can just cut bait.

I see no reason for the White Sox to trade for Matt Harvey. Some pseudo-contender with a hole in the rotation (kinda like that fraudulent Twins team we’re playing tonight) probably would bite, though.

If he clears waivers the Sox being near the bottom in baseball can pick him up for nothing if they wish.

He's a free agent after this year though which could be a factor in the Sox thinking.

Worth a look, can't be much worse than the stiffs we are sending out.

Coop can fix him. I would take a flyer for sure.

I don’t see him making it to the waiver wire. Some GM will be willing to give up something of low value in order to remove the risk of missing out.

What I wouldn’t mind seeing is a three-team trade where we take on Harvey’s salary and get minor leaguers from the Mets and from a team that is interested in Harvey but doesn’t want to take on salary.

Have a link to that article? I can’t seem to find it.

A look at pitchfx, his velocity is down from 97ish a few years back but he's still throwing 93-94. His arm isn't dead, have Coop take a look.

There will be a bidding war for his services between Rush St. and River North.

It all depends on the overall strategy for this year. If it's going to be having the "future" getting huge innings in the second half or last third of the year, we may avoid making any moves. Being involved in a way we essentially buy prospects is intriguing though if you have a team like the Mets wanting to save on salary.

On one hand he might still have something left. On the other hand, everything points to him being a huge pain in the ass and probably not worth the return.

Pass.
