For completeness, here is what Josh Fields did @ WS @ 21 years of age: .285/.333/.445/.778, with 74 Ks, 18 BB, and 7 HR, and 0 SB in 256 AB back in '04. Brent Morel @ WS @ 22 years of age: .281/.335/.453/.788 with 66 Ks, 38 BB, 16 HR, and 25 SB in 481 AB this year. Looking at the two, Fields definitely struck out at nearly twice the rate, but neither took walks at a great rate. Morel actually hit HR at a slightly greater rate than Fields did, if you can believe that. I'm actually encouraged when I compare the two. Here's hoping that Morel can continue to improve. I'd like to see his OPS surpass the .800 mark, though... |

One thing of note about Morel this year is how he started and how strong he finished. Through June he was at .261/.311/.437, and he closed out batting .310/.359/.472 in the last three months of the season (all of those months he batted over 300).

I knew the AFL was a hitters league but holy ****:
Greg Desme (A's prospect) of the Desert Dogs: .393 AVG 10 HR 23 RBI in 15 games .

Yep. And the highest level he's played at is half a year of A+. Impressive showing.
Not to take away too much from him, but this year's pitching crop is especially bad. (Look at who we sent.) |

It's almost like a marketing campaign for your offensive prospects, where you can sell high based on good showings in the AFL.

I don't believe it has been mentioned, but the Javelinas clinched their division a while ago and will be playing in the title game on Saturday on MLB Network. Will be a nice chance to get a look at Brent Morel.

Who has been hot as all get out in the last week... he had a 4-6 game with a HR, followed by a 3-5 day with another HR(his first 2 of the AFL league).

Couple of leaders in the AFL from the Sox.
Brent Morel AVG: .435 Danks RUNS: 31 I'm sure the Sox especially like the runs scored for Danks. If they are grooming him to be a future lead off guy, it's nice to see that he can get on base a lot (.458 OBP) despite his strikeouts. Something I noticed with Danks: I was watching the AFL allstar game from 11/8 and all the balls that he hit were to the opposite field, he appears to have a very good stroke that way which is nice to see with our pull happy offense. For the people that have seen Jordan live, was what I saw an anomaly or does he actually use all fields with the bat? |

Morel lines the first pitch he sees into right-center field for a single.
