If true, would set the new record for highest annual salary and total contact cost for a pitcher

Honestly I'm surprised he'd stay given the issues facing that franchise.
Oh well, looks like the Sox will have to sign either Verlander or Kershaw next season when they become free agents! Lip |

Technically it's a 5-year $135.5 mil extension tacked onto the end of his current deal that has 2 more years left. $27 mil per year for the next 7 years though...wow.

Justin Verlander and his agent must be smiling from ear to ear today. What the heck is Verlander going to get on the open market in 2015? $30 million per?

Well, with Ichirio gone, someone's gotta keep the M's on the map.

With the talent he has? $30 million/year easily.

And now supposedly the deal is still in the works because the M's have some fears about the health of Felix's elbow...

No way, that violent motion of his is a ticking time bomb.

Both teams are likely to spend to keep their guys, but don't discount the Yankees. I have a feeling they're going to have a really tough year and they'll likely compensate by signing the entire world.

I know you're being facetious, but even with that motion he should be able to get that kind of money. How old is Verlander, anyway? Has he even hit 30 yet? The younger he is, the more money he's going to get.

Haha...he doesn't have a violent motion. He has one of the least violent motions in baseball. There are guys that throw 85 that have more violent motions. If he's got a violent motion, it's because throwing a baseball is violent. The dude throws 250 innings and never wears down. The reason for that is his motion.
