Default Playoffs!?

The Sox are 4 1/2 games out with 4 months to go, despite playing horrible baseball.

What are the odds that this team can turn it around, get hot, and make a run at the division title?

I watched a bloated, 300-pound Bartolo Colon make the Sox look sick last night, scattering 3 hits and shutting down an inept offense.

How much longer are we going to have to watch Dunn, De Aza, Vizciedo and company struggle at the plate? I know, there are no real alternatives for Robin Ventura. They have virtually nothing in the minors right now. I guess we can't still blame Greg Walker for this mess.

Beckham will be back soon. And that will help solidify the infield defense. But we certainly can't count on him to generate much with the bat. He's been a disappointment offensively since tearing up the league in his first year.

The only guys who have hit well during the first 2 months have been Rios, Ramirez and Gillaspie. Flowers is acceptable on defense, but he clearly is lacking on offense.

The pitching? It's good enough to keep us in most games. Axelrod deserved a better fate last night. With Sale, Peavy, Quintana and perhaps Santiago the Sox have an above average starting rotation. And the bullpen is decent with Reed, Crain and company even though Nate Jones is going through a rough patch.

I have to figure that sooner or later the Tigers are going to get hot, run off a stretch where they win 14 out of 18 and leave the rest of the division behind in their dust. But their bullpen is suspect. It cost them another game last night. The Tigers are going to have to pickup a reliever or two over the next month.

Should the Sox pull off another White Flag Trade, circa 1997? No. It's way too early to panic.

Considering how bad they've played, to be just 4 1/2 back is a minor miracle. And proof that the AL Central is a weak division from top to bottom.

As Hawk would say, time to button 'em down and strap 'em up, boys. The Sox are realistically just one hot streak away from being in first place.

Wishful thinking? Maybe.

4.5 out just means no team in the division has been hot yet.

The Indians and Tigers are still on pace for 87-90 wins.

Indians will probably go backwards unless they get another starting pitcher and their bullpen gets back on track after an awful May.

Tigers will get hot and probably get a bullpen arm or two. They'll hit over their bullpen shortcomings more in the summer months.

Sox are dead. They have the worst offense in the AL. I doubt the team with the worst offense after two months has ever made the postseason in the divisional era.

The Sox need to focus on making acquisitions that will get them back on track for 2015 since they probably won't be able to compete next year with Dunn still on the team.

Playoffs? I'd find a second hobby.

I didn't even realize Bartolo Colon was still alive until last night.

He was solid last year too. There are worse pitchers out there.

The pressure put on this good pitching staff by the inept offense is tremendous. I wouldn't be surprised if they buckle from fatigue and we tank.
Hope not, but playoffs is just silly at this point.

Exactly my thoughts. Every pitch is critical when you don't score runs, no room for error. This is not a good situation for a pitching staff.

The Tigers have better players and a proven winning manager. They will take over the division this year and will not wait around for a team to forfeit the division like the White Sox did last year.

...and with a winning record!

I remember when he went missing. Which is pretty hard for a guy his size!

Steroids have a way of helping you out.

Seriously this isn't the same slug who quit on the Sox in 2007.

Something happened. I suspect it was a combination of steroids and that "unique" proceedure he had done a few years ago.

The guy went the distance last night. With the Sox offense, I figured he could have pitched another 9 innings and we still wouldn't have touched him for a run. His career record is approximately 50+ over .500. I figure he had some artificial help getting to that point, considering he's 40 years old.

Sox made him a decent offer to stay with the club a few years ago, but the Angels made a better offer and he jumped ship.

He was a big man (translation: full bodied) when he was pitching for the Sox. He's an even bigger man now. But the guy can still throw strikes with what seems like an effortless motion.

The only way this team makes the playoffs is if there are about a half dozen airline disasters.

Colon wasn't on the White Sox in 2007, he walked away from the Sox in 2009. That was the year that Kenny thought that Colon (who hadn't pitched a full season since 2005) and Contreras (who had a devastating ankle injury in July of the previous year) would suffice as our 4th and 5th starters.
