Default Message from Mark Gonzales of the Trib...

This was sent to me this morning from Lip and asked to share with the rest of the community:

From Mark Gonzo Gonzales (Sox beat writer for the Trib):

I just wanted to give you a heads up.

I'll be switching over to the Cubs sometime next month. Will fill you in with more details later, but I wanted you to know ASAP because you and the people at White Sox Interactive have been very, very, very fair to me, and I respect the work and opinions of WSI. Please convey my thoughts to them.

Mark

Disappointing news. Gonzo is one of the few reasons I still subscribe to the Trib.

This broke on Twitter during the game last night. I like Gonzales, but honestly, I don't particularly care. That's a nice gesture to acknowledge the site.

I feel for him. There really isn't a good way to get the smell if urine completely out of your clothes.

Good for him. I'm sure his job will be more entertaining now, since the Cubs are at least doing....something. I always thought he was pretty fair, too.

I didn't know this site was even known. I always thought it was a site for 20 or so regular users.

Anybody know the story here? Are they moving Sullivan over or is he getting a columnist assignment.

I used to not mind it when the papers used to rotate the beat writers at the break, but this late in the season it doesn't make sense.

Too bad. I respect Mark and like reading his coverage. I think he is fair. I wonder who will be covering the Sox after the change is made.

Here's a report that says Colleen Kane is the new Sox beat writer:

I'm disappointed that Gonzo didn't mention me by name when he wrote of respecting the opinions of WSI. I'm sure that was an oversight.

Seriously, I'm disappointed he's switching to the North Side. I enjoy his work.

Well I do view this site alot different now. When I was at the Sox game the other day, me and my buddys went to the bars after the game and I was talking to some guy and he said he was a member of this site. I must admit this site is bigger than what I always thought.

On a different note, what the heck happened to bars on the Southside, they were all a bunch of hipster bars that we went too.

He's lucky. He doesn't have to watch this crap anymore.

Never underestimate the far reaching tentacles of WSI. There have been plenty of well known writers, radio personalities, front office people, and even a certain post game host that spend time here. I also think this site played a huge role to get some people elected to some all-star games a few years back.

Not sure what bars you went to, but the hipster crowd probably comes with the price of gentrification.

Now that the paper has divested itself of the Cubs -- or was it the other way around, after all? -- they must think it's safe to have a real reporter cover them instead of Sullivan, who rolled over when Hendry and McPhail reamed him for supposedly critical coverage of their team. I wonder if Sully now gets rewarded for his post-beatdown loyalty or exiled to the on-line Trib with fellow apologist George Knue. Those were the good old days, when Knue and other Trib lackeys would post on WSI rationalizing (or more often denying) the obvious editorial bias. What a hoot.

Good luck, Gonzo.

There were rumors that Jay Mariotti wanted to make a comeback in Chicago as the Tribune beat writer for the White Sox. Guess he'll have to keep looking for another job.
