Default Ryan Dempster sitting out 2014 season

Dempster was set to make $13 million this season, but has apparently decided to sit out the season as he is having health concerns. Looks like he will sit out the year and decide if retirement is in the cards at season's end...

Neck issues could explain his decline in performance, but something must really be wrong if he's walking away from $13 million.
Soon enough, he'll probably be in the Cubs booth.

Oh, joy. He is the least unfunny guy that people give credit to for being funny.

Wait a minute...despite being injured, Dempster is agreeing to voluntarily relinquish his salary? I thought the story was athletes were solely concerned with making money. He could have easily forced them to put him on the DL and get paid.

Dempster has always been classy

I'm gonna need some help on the double negatives in this one.

I did not know that. I've got respect for him now though.

So if he's the "least unfunny guy," wouldn't that make him the funniest guy? Just asking.

I know this is the internet, but I'm fairly certain we can agree to meet somewhere in the middle here.

Right? He's always been great with the media, great with kids, and great with his Charity. At the same time, he (reportedly) cheated on his wife with the couple's nanny and got divorced for it (I'd say getting divorced would be paying the price for his indiscretions).

Sounds like Dempster is like every other human on the planet - we all have our good/bad days.

This.
It's easy to call someone a dirtbag yet many of us would not share the stuff we've done.

As I recall, he has a daughter with a pretty serious, life-threatening condition. It wouldn't surprise me if this has something to do with that. Hopefully she's OK.
