That kind of came out of nowhere. All rumors to this point seemed to be about Porcello. This probably puts Drew Smyly in the rotation, right?

I don't know a ton about the prospects they got, but this seems a little weird. The Tigers are built to and need to win now, and it's tough to see how trading Porcello for a package helps that.

The Fister move is a salary dump by the Tigers. Media is saying they will use the money to sign Scherzer.

Nationals starting pitching staff is pretty sick right now. Fister replaces Dan Haren/Edwin Jackson.

Good for AJ. Gives him another chance at a ring.

I like it, A.J. has a decent shot with a contending team, and since he's now with Boston, if ESPN has anything to do with it, the whole clubhouse cancer yoke that's been hung on him for years will be gone by April.

Plus, if he messes with the Yankees, that's fun for all of us.

Good for AJ! Interesting, though, I seem to remember that Peavy and AJ weren't exactly best buddies on the White Sox.

I predict that by May 1, 2014, A.J. will be the third most popular Red Sox player in New England (behind Ortiz and Pedroia). They will love him there!

Recap on the Fister to DC trade from Baseball America

http://www.baseballamerica.com/major...three-players/

Detroit aquires utility man Steve Lombardozzi and a pair of 22-year-old pitchers, Ian Krol and Robbie Ray. Krol was moved to the bullpen in 2012 and reached the Majors last year for the Nats, and BA suggests his presence may allow Detroit to move Smyly into their starting rotation. Ray reached AA last year and was the #5 prospect in Washington's farm system.

All in all, Fister gives the Nats another quality SP for their rotation, but I like this move from Detroit's perspective, too, assuming they are able to lock up Scherzer.

Toronto doesn't offer Arencibia a contract and the Pirates DFA McKenry. Just curious if either of them would be an upgrade over Flowers/Phegley.

I know McKenry was hurt last season, but he became expendable when Pittsburgh acquired Stewart from the Yankees.

As for Arencibia, every Toronto game I watched part of last season, he seemed to strike out every other AB. However, I thought he was once a high prospect for the Jays.

AJ Pierzynski is headed to Beantown on a 1 year, $8.25 million deal (according to Buster Olney).
Jim Johnson gets traded from Baltimore to Oakland for Jemile Weeks and a PTBNL. I don't know what the hell the Orioles are doing. If you want to trade a guy because you don't think you can keep him when he hits free agency, then fine, but getting this little out of it?

Well, there (thankfully) goes the nostalgia wagon around here for at least another year.

Or the fact that he's still better for the foreseeable future than any White Sox catcher could be a reason that wagon was rolling.
