Interesting. He had a lot of promise as a prospect and was pretty solid for the Cards until last year. Coop'll fix em... |

Sure, why not? Extra arms never hurt.

From what I've read over lunch, he seemed to have problems locating his breaking stuff last year and/or his slider wasn't moving like it did in 2012. Also head problems with being the closer vs. set-up in 12.

Dan Hayes @DanHayesCSN
Deunte Heath was removed from 40-man roster to clear spot for Mitchell Boggs. Heath will attend camp as a non-roster invitee. #WhiteSox Scott Merkin http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/cws/...&vkey=news_cws Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan Boggs (who will wear No. 43) has pitched in 17 postseason games, 16 1/3 IP with 3.86 ERA. Made 7 appearances during Cards '11 WS title run. |

I'm really disappointed in my overall baseball awareness these days. When I was a kid, I could probably name 90% of the 25 man rosters of all 30 teams. Now, the Sox are signing guys left and right that I've never heard of. Surkamp? Paulino? Boggs? I guess that's what happens when you grow up. Here's hoping he becomes the 2014 Cliff Politte!

If he reverts back to when he was effective he will be a fine addition to the bullpen. You can never have enough good arms. I like the pick up.

I like it. He's done his job in St. Louis well. Hoping he's the next Putz or Crain.

If we find ourselves in contention, he becomes super valuable. If we find ourselves in the basement looking for prospects, he could become a valuable trade chip. If he is a complete bust, you didn't invest much financially in him and you replace his roster spot with a Jake Petricka or someone of that ilk. In any case Duente Heath didn't really show much in his time with the big club so replacing him with Boggs seems to be another good depth move by the Sox.

Like it- low risk, decent upside and it creates more competition to make the roster.
In 2013- we had guys who sucked- but their role wasn't really at risk- because all our other options sucked more- The bullpen arms Hahn is signing mean a prospect really has to earn it and we reduce the risk of rushing anyone vs. keeping them at AAA/AA for more development.
