Default Anti-hero of the 2005 World Series resurfaces

Though he was embarrassingly dickish in WS05, I find no joy in this sad tale. In Texas, you do not want to run afoul of the law.

He was excited on the mound and I think he yelled some stuff at the Sox dugout, Everett and Willie Harris were talking about it on the bench in the World Series DVD.

Only once? Go back and watch Game 4 of the World Series. He was acting like a clown ala Tim Hudson circa 2000 against the Sox. I've got no beef with the OP on this one. He's right on it, and kudos to a good memory of Everett and Buehrle making fun of Backe later in the game.

I seem to recall that he was mic'ed up for that game, so there were many shots of him saying stuff. I've always assumed that it wasnt out of the ordinary, and that we just heard it because of the microphone. I never thought twice about because by that point the Sox were up 3-0 and I had full confidence that they would win their first championship in my lifetime.

Look at it from multiple sides. In the Series he was just trying to fire up the team, and he was their most effective pitcher.

Besides, it's kind of funky to rip on a guy over how he got hurt in an incident that ended his career. BTW: We won the series, no further comeuppance is required...

Wait, I thought we established Backe didn't do anything to incur Sox wrath or ridicule in WS05.

A highlight of the series was when Garner and Everett exchanged X-rated pleasantries even as a former First Lady sat right behind home plate, unmistakably within earshot. That one didn't make it into the official MLB DVD.

Wasn't he one of the guys that was prematurely celebrating when the Astros had a lead over the Cardinals in game 5 of the NLCS that year, and when Pujols hit the homerun, some of the Cardinal players were yelling at him on the bench something along the lines of "that's why you play all 9 innings, *******" ?

I think you're right. I do know he also got into a shouting match with Pujols before the manager had to get him off the field. He sounds like a real class act.
