Hearing that Johnson's future is at second base. Peter Gammons recently said Johnson has a "cornerback's body" and is a skilled athlete.

Well, that is not a surprise he's never played anywhere else except for brief attempts in college. Micah showed some nice pop when he played at IU and was probably headed for a selection in the second or third round until he got injured his junior year and fell off the radar.

Another solid start for Erik Johnson, he's now 0-0 with a 1.38 ERA, .178 BAA, in 13 IP allowing only 8 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 10 since his demotion to AAA.

Given the extreme trouble the Sox are having keeping healthy arms up here, wonder how much longer he will be down.

Hope they bring him up to take the next Noesi start. Seems like the demotion has done what it was intended to - make him throw strikes.

I won't lie, seeing this has brought back a little bit of Courtney Hawkins excitement.

What's the deal with the 16 year old they signed last year? What is he doing right now?

To me Erik's success really hinges on him getting his velocity back.

When he came up last year, he was consistently at 92/93. This year, while he was up, he was at 89/90. He lost confidence in it, started nibbling, and walked too many hitters.

I'm hoping it was simply mechanical, although there are some pitchers who get stronger as the season progresses.

He's been assigned to the Dominican Summer League White Sox in Boca Chica. Their season runs from June to August. This will be his first taste of professional baseball.

Definitely and my encouragement for his starts in AAA were tempered a bit when I read this morning that he was topping out around 88-89 with his fastball. Hopefully it's just a slow gun, but yeah, makes sense why the Sox are keeping him in AAA for at least one more start. Hopefully he's just got some things to work out and it's not an injury he's trying to play through.

Not looking good for Jared Mitchell. Would this likely be his last year in the Sox farm system if he doesn't show some improvement?

Matt Davidson's numbers look awful too. I hope it's just a slow start or something. There was talk on WSI this spring that maybe he'd be a June call up or something. It doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon.

I think people also expected the team to be much worse than they have been so there's no need to rush Davidson up here for more offense. He can take the time he needs to figure out his swing in AAA while the Sox continue to lead the AL in RPG.

Christ, 48 strike outs in 109 at bats for Davidson. That's a little more than a slow start.

Micah Johnson has been promoted to Charlotte.

Micah Johnson earns first Triple-A promotion after strong starts with the Barons

"In 37 games this season, Johnson is hitting .329 (48-for-146) with three home runs, 18 runs scored, 16 RBI and 10 steals. He leads the Southern League in batting average (1st), games, (T-1st), at-bats (1st), hits (48) and ranks among the league-leaders in total bases (3rd, 68) and on-base percentage (5th, .414)."
