Yup, Nola is a solid arm, but if we take him at 3, its a joke. He is not in the top 5 available players, let a lone the top 3.

The funny thing is, there is some buzz Kenny Williams is involved in pushing Nola forward here, and this is so the typical KW strategy.

I think my head may explode if we take Nola at all, nice arm, not a top 3 talent, not a top 50 prospect, no reason to take him at 3.

I hope the Marlins draft Nola so he can play for the Zephyrs.

Keith Law may be basing that prediction on KW's outlook and approach. The Sox, it seems to me, have moved in a different direction under Rick Hahn.

Personally, I doubt that they take Nola. I expect the draft to go one of two ways:

Houston: Aiken
Miami: Rodon
Sox: Kolek

or

Houston: Rodon
Miami: Kolek
Sox: Aiken

My guess is that the Sox will end up with one of the two elite high school pitchers. It should just be a question of which one is there. But I do think that Rodon will not make it past pick #2.

By "buzz" I think you mean baseless speculation.

You'd think with Williams' spotty track record when it comes to the draft, he'd step back and let Hahn do his thing.

I don't follow prep/college baseball enough to have strong feelings one way or the other, but the consensus seems to be that there's a sizable fall-off from the top 3. It'd be insane for the Sox to pass up on Kolek if the other two are gone. I don't care if he's 3-4 years away, you can't teach what he has. With professional coaching and experience (plus health), he could be an ace. I haven't read any scouting reports that suggest Nola has a ceiling remotely approaching that status.

I have a hunch I'm going to feel like I did when the Bears drafted Shea McClellin. I hope I'm wrong...

Based on who is telling me, no. But as I say every year at draft time if I mention who or what my buddy does, he stops feeding me info. Nola is a KW guy

Jackson or Rodon, either one is a win.

Thank you Marlins!

Ball is in our court. Now is not the time to be cheap, Jerry. A 1-2 of Sale and Rodon could be as good as any in baseball within a few years.

Agree. He's my favorite pitcher of the big three. Maybe not as high a ceiling as Kolek, but I think the risk is so much smaller with him.
