Default BA mock draft has the Sox taking Brady Aiken at #3

Which would be a very good pick, though, he is a HS pitcher so it would be several years until he's in the Majors

I'd love an Alex Fernandez or Chris Sale type that can be penciled into the rotation within a year or two (and be really good), but I don't know enough to know which guys fit that profile.

It sure seems that the top three players in this draft are all pitchers: Tyler Kolek, Brady Aiken and Carlos Rodon. If two of those three are taken before the Sox pick, I assume that the Sox will take the remaining pitcher.

Here is my question: what if more than one of that trio is available when the Sox pick? What would they do then?

Beede was my guy pre season, but he has not shown what he needed to this year, the value for him at 3 is not there.

I echo this statement, Beede has really disappointed me this year. I guess a lot of people would say the same thing about Rodon, but I view him a cut or two above.

1. Kolek
2. Aiken
3. Rodon

That's how I'd prioritize them for the Sox. Kolek being a right handed power pitcher would look awesome next to Sale in 2 years.

This pick looks to be the easiest selection in years, there are 3 elite talents (Aiken, Rodon, Kolek), maybe 4 if you include the best hitter available (Jackson).

Take the best of the 3 pitchers and call it a day. Only way Id pass on one of those 3 is they were scared of medically/delivery. In which case, they better be right. Saving slot money is silly, get the impact player. We have a large pool of money to sign our other players, and can likely go over slot for them anyway.

I think picks 1 and 2 are harder because they have to chose, we pretty much sit back relax and strap it down...and take who ever is left of the big 3.

What in the world makes you think a guy out of HS will be in the Majors in 2 years? What is the average development time, even for 1st round HS pitchers in the minors? It surely has to be longer than that.

It's not without precedent. Rick Porcello was only in the minors for a year before joining Detroit's rotation.

I think we'll take Nola. I'm okay with that. Upside is probably #2, but he's quick to the majors and as low risk as you can get I suppose.

The upside is not a 2 though, or atleast a really good 2. I mean anything can happen, but he has been considerably compared to a number 3 SP, and taking him there is going to be a really negative thing for Sox fans.

I support taking the best pitcher available. I don't care if he won't be in the majors or not for the next two years. If that pitcher is younger, so be it. Just my opinion, but I believe we need to take advantage of this opportunity to add potentially a more elite talent.

You don't get this kind of opportunity very often, unless you're doing it on purpose, like Houston and the Cubs. I'm all for the highest upside.

I like high upside, just a little leery of HS pitcher.

Nola's pitching on ESPN3 right now for those interested (in moderate upside)
