For ESPN Insiders, Keith Law says Rondon is number 1 in the White Sox system as soon as he signs

Does anyone know how much $ we have left in our draft budget to sign Rodon?

I sure do like the efficiency in which we signed rounds 2-10, but I'm a little worried we don't have enough to appease Boras.

Its not a bad strategy, we are not going to go hard after Montes De Oca now, so I think what we did was clear as much as we could, and will approach him with a take it or leave it offer, as all we can do is offer this much.

Boras has zero leverage in this case. Is Rondon really willing to go back to school and risk injury, or a down season and possibly lose a few million dollars? I seriously doubt it.

Boras, though, being the ass that he is, will draw this out to the final day to show off for his client.

Well, those signings happened pretty quickly.

Now we have to see what happens with Carlos Rodon and Bryce Montes de Oca.

Well, he is Mark Appel's agent and they did that exact thing 2 years ago.

Well, that is interesting though:

Appel's deal was he was picked 8th. So the slot between 8 and what he wanted (expecting over 6 mil) was huge.

Appel then got caught with his hand in the cookie jar, and signed below slot as first overall pick a year later. He cleared 6 mil, but really, could have had that the year before if Boras did not come out asking for the moon.

I think with Rodon, the risk of falling and those dollars are much higher than the risk of moving up 2 slots. Its Boras, so who knows, but Appel was viewed as a risky/tough sign by many. Rodon has not been mentioned in the same light.

As noted by Baseball America earlier this week, the White Sox have $6.58MM that they can spend on top pick Carlos Rodon without losing future draft picks.

If Kolek signed for $6 mil, is it possible we sign Rodon for about the same, and use the rest of $ on Montas de Oca??? Would be an ideal situation.

Depends on what you mean by "about the same." I think he signs for that $6.58MM

I don't think we get both. We would need Rodon to settle for 5.5 mil and MDO to settle for a mil, not sure either would do that, and the more Rodon takes, the less we can offer MDO

I don't think he gets over the $6.58 mil, but I don't think he settles for much under it either. Boras is not the type of agent to have his clients settle for less to help the team.

Dan Hayes ‏@DanHayesCSN 19h

Carlos Rodon could probably be in big leagues soon if he signs with #WhiteSox, asst. GM Buddy Bell said. http://bit.ly/1lfhCUt
